In January, I (Katie) wrote a perspective piece for Science on a fascinating new paper providing clear evidence for hybrid speciation in Galapagos finches. As an undergrad at Whitman, one of the key experiences that set me on the track to becoming an evolutionary biologist was reading The Beak of the Finch and learning about Peter and Rosemary Grant’s work on Darwin’s finches. It felt like coming full circle to have the chance to write about these birds myself.
